Why is church important?

Why is church important?

Church is important because when we gather each week in community for worship, we can be encouraged, and learn from God’s word for spiritual growth in our lives. Our worship not only honors and magnifies God, but it is also for our own enlightenment and strength. When we gather for worship, it helps us to develop such character traits as forgiveness, tenderness, justice, righteousness, purity, kindness, and love.

Worship feeds us with God’s word for our lives, and it is in God s word that we learn about righteous love for God and our neighbor.

Worship also feeds us through baptism, and the Eucharist, both which cleanse us from our sin and purify our bodies for being in a right relationship with God.

Finally, church is important because it gives us at least one hour each week to practice how we can live out our daily lives, and strengthen our ability to love. We are then sent out into the world to proclaim Gods love. It is in this love that we can be provided with a second chance, be healed, and given new life here and now, as well as, when we leave this world to go home to be with God.

Church is one of the only places in the world we can go to find peace, comfort, hope, and love even when we fall short of being the best we can be. The outside world does not offer such an invitation.

Peace be with you,
